The Creative MuVo Slim 256MB MP3 Player is one of the thinnest MP3 players I have seen in a long time. This 256mb MP3 player also features some of the best sound quality on the market today.

The MuVo Slim also allows you to record your own voice and save these files directly onto your 256mb MP3 player.

The MuVo is targeted towards business professionals but it makes a great 256mb MP3 player for just about anybody. The only complaints I have is that the ear buds are not that comfortable, but you can replace these with a pair that you like. Also, this 256mb MP3 player needs a USB Cable to recharge but these are just minor drawbacks. All in all this is one of the best new 256mb MP3 players on the market for those who do not have thousands and thousands of songs to store.

First, let’s start off with some brief technical specifications of the player:

The player’s remote control is an optional item that can be purchased seperately from the player and wasn’t included in the review. People who’s interested in this player might want to prepare a seperate set of earphones to be used together with the player.

Notice the three circular things on the rear of the player?

Switching the MP3 player on was quite a breeze and was pretty intuitive (just by the press of the PLAY button).

One honorable mention about this MP3 player is the ability to record from 3rd party sources like a Mini-Disc player, eg CD players using the Line In jack, particularly useful when users do not have access to a computer. The major flaw in the player is the missing ‘hold’ switch from the player. I experienced a lot of disruptions while using the player on train trips and while walking with the player in my pocket. Hopefully Aigo can correct this flaw in their future players.

The USB Data Interface connector and the Charger shares the same connector, and it’s not possible to charge the player via USB. User will be unable to use the player for file transfer while charging the player. The player comes with an unique text to speech function, allowing you to convert text files into speech files, but i doubt that anyone will look into this feature when purchasing a MP3 player of their choice.

The one we’ll be looking at is the 256MB 8-in-1 MP3 Player.

Features:

Inside the packaging, we found an instruction manual, a mini CD containing drivers, a pair of headphones, a USB cable, and the 256MB MP3 player. The 256MB 8-1 MP3 Player takes one AAA.

Examination

Appearance-wise the Ultra 256MB MP3 Player is pretty standard. Most of the exterior of the player is composed of deep blue plastic and the back of the player is composed of black rubbery material. The cap on the end of the player hides the USB connection. Finally on the backside of the player there is a slot for flash memory cards. This unit takes SD cards and MMC cards up to 1GB.

Performance:

When the player was turned on we were immediately greeted by a large ULTRA MP3 logo and then directed to the main MP3 player screen. There were no songs on the player so we went ahead and uploaded some songs to the player. Loading files onto the player was pretty painless as it was simply like copying files to any other flash drive. The transfer interface used in this player, surprisingly, is the outdated USB 1.1 (Upload 950Kbps, Download 520Kbps).

Once the files were transferred, we turned on the player again. In the top right corner of the LCD were two numbers representing the track number, and the track progress. The music sounded much better after changing headphones. The equalizer choices were Normal, Classic, Pop, Rock, Jazz, and Bass. Normal sounded just fine however for the various genres that we tested. Depressing the joystick displayed a menu that allowed us to choose from six options: MP3 Player (which we were just using), Voice Player (which plays recorded audio), FM Radio, Record, Setting, and Exit. Once recorded, we switched to the voice player mode to listen to the recording; and we were surprised by the quality of the recording. It worked very well overall.

Conclusion:

We also had noise problems with one song that was encoded at 320kbps.

  • Can only be charged through USB port
